An Arduino Nano clone with ATMega328P and CH340 serial interface can be ordered from China for under 2 €. I needed 2 x 4 pins for my steppers, one pin for the servo and one input pin for the button. I decided to use an Arduino Nano clone for this. All this can just as well be done by an Arduino, apart from actually driving the steppers. This board does all the hardware related jobs: control of steppers and pen servo, plus the sensing of the PAUSE button. The original project uses the EiBotBoard to control the plotter. Although I didn't find quite the project that I was plann ing, a few projects were inspiring. Since I didn't want to re-invent the wheel, I trawled the in t ernet for other projects that had attempted th e same.

It cons ists of some structural parts (mainly plywood), two stepper moto rs, one hobby servo and the 'EiBo tBoard ' control electronics. īut eventually I decided to look into the details of the EggBot. For me, that is too much money for not enough fun. The basic version is about 200 $ in t he US and about 210 € in Europe. But unfortunately, it doesn't come cheap. You can g et a kit to build your own EggBot from Ev il Mad Scientist. The original device is an art project of Bruce Shapiro, apparently conceived in 1990. I have admired the idea of the Egg Bot for quite some time.

But: NOT as accurate as the original EggBot.

Software is written as an Arduino sketch.

Uses low-cost components (total cost around 25 €).

Plots on spheres and eggs, sim ilar to the Egg Bot.
